With pre-E3 trailers swarming online, here's a new one for Tomb Raider. Over the years, the game has centred on the adventures of Lara Croft, an English archaeologist in search of ancient relics. In this latest iteration, which is a reboot in the Tomb Raider franchise, the game showcases a young Lara embarking on a quest for survival that unfolds her identity as the Tomb Raider.
The first minute of the trailer shows old footage of the game that aired at E3 last year. A bruised and battered Lara is seen hanging upside down in an underground cave trying to free herself. Once she falls to the ground, there's a series of explosions and she eventually makes her way out only to find a massive shipwreck.
The new trailer picks up from last year's demo and showcases plenty of in-game footage all of which is playable. Lara is alone on an island after being shipwrecked and is surrounded by lush foliage. In terms of weaponry used, Lara retrieves a bow from a dead person and the next thing we know, she kills a deer to fend food. Other weapons include guns, pistols and knives which appear later.
Gradually making her way through the jungle, she comes across another girl who recognises her from the ship, but is taken hostage immediately. What follows is Lara being helped by a few interesting characters, who are possibly survivors from the ship. The plot deepens as Lara is held captive by a strange man in the woods as she tries to make a desperate escape. There's a plane-propeller crashing sequence which looks quite cinematic. The trailer ends with Lara hanging off a cliff just moments before she says, "I hate tombs".
The game was first set for an early autumn release but has now been postponed to March 5 2013 and will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
