Highlights
  • Battlegrounds was released on Steam in March
  • The game is seeing record daily playtime on Steam
  • Over 10 million Battlegrounds players on Steam so far

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds recently hit a milestone with 10 million copies having been sold on Steam despite being in early access. While the numbers suggest that game is rising in popularity, a new report says that its blowing other non-Valve games away in hours spent daily on Steam.

The over 10 million Battlegrounds players on Steam are logging in some serious daily playtime, according to data posted by Steam Spy. The graph shows Battlegrounds beats the likes of GTA 5 and Fallout 4 on Steam. The chart shows an upward trend since its launch in March. Notably, the game does not follow the typical model of big launch numbers followed by falling player base.

Late last month, we reported that Battlegrounds reached 877,844 concurrent players on Steam, beating long-time favourite (and free to play) Dota 2. Despite being relatively new, the game has managed to eat away the audience for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which is one of the biggest games on Steam.

At Gamescom last month, Battlegrounds creator Brendan Greene revealed that Bluehole Inc, the company behind the game, will be partnering with Microsoft to bring it to the Xbox One and Xbox One X. As of now, no release date has been confirmed yet. One will have to wait and see if the company will see the same level of success on the Xbox as it has on Steam.
