Spain-based phone manufacturer, GeeksPhone has started taking pre-orders for a new Firefox OS-powered phone, Peak+.

The Peak+ smartphone is an upgraded version of Peak, which was one of the first Firefox OS smartphones. However, with the Peak+, GeeksPhone is targeting end users and not just developers and technology enthusiasts.

The phone sports a 4.3-inch qHD IPS Multitouch display that features a resolution of 540x960 pixels. The Peek+ is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 8225 processor, and has 1GB of RAM. It runs Firefox OS 1.1 out of the box. The phone's form factor has also been revamped and it looks unique, specially with the back that sports a partially curved design.

The phone features an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front camera, and includes 4GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card. The phone boasts of features like FM Radio and connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, and GPS.

The Peek+ phone comes with an 1800 mAh battery. The phone is available for pre-order at a promo price of EUR 150 (Rs.11,700 approximately) but the company says that the price will go up after the initial batch is sold out. People who pre-order now will get their phones shipped in mid-September.

The original Peak phone went on sale in April and was sold out in a very short time. The Peak is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and sports a 4.3-inch qHD IPS screen. It also features an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera. Along with the Peak, GeeksPhone had also launched the Keon smartphone. The Keon is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1Ghz processor, has 512MB RAM and features 4GB of internal memory. It features a 4.3-inch qHD IPS screen, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera.

While the Keon was available at a price of $119 (approximately Rs. 6,445), the Peak smartphone was priced at $194 (approximately Rs. 10,500). The phones were first unveiled in January.

The other consumer devices running Firefox OS are expected to launch by summer in Brazil, Colombia, Hungary, Mexico, Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Venezuela. Mozilla plans to reach 11 more markets by the end of the year, and the US in 2014.

Mozilla had first previewed the Firefox Mobile OS in February during the Mobile World Congress. With Firefox OS, the foundation aims to offer entry-level devices and plans to bring mobile web content directly to users with web apps. Phone makers that plan to make Firefox phones include Huawei and ZTE of China, LG of Korea and Sony. All the phones will run on chips supplied by Qualcomm.
