LG has reportedly posted a 25 percent gain in its smartphone shipments in 2014.

According to a Korean Herald report that cites industry sources, LG is estimated to have shipped around 59.6 million units of smartphones in 2014, which is up by 25.2 percent (or 12 million units) from the 47.6 million units a year before, 2013.

While it mostly appears to be the popularity and the success of flagship LG G3, industry watchers also believe that LG's G3 Stylus and the G3 Beat also did the trick for the South Korean company. Previously, according to market tracker Strategy Analytics' data, LG had shipped around 20 million units of smartphones worldwide in 2011 and around 26.3 million units in 2012, noted Korean Herald.

On the other hand, according to research firm TrendForce's data (via Cnet), Samsung shipped around 326 million units in 2014, retaining its top position on in the list with a 28 percent of the smartphone market share, but lost share from 32.5 percent in 2013.

The figures of LG shipments by TrendForce suggested that LG shipped around 70 million units (6 percent) of the total 1,166.9 million units shipped in 2014.

The research firm also published top 10 smartphone vendors list based on 2014 market share percentages.

In year-on-year, though Apple maintained in second spot in the list, its market share dipped slightly by 0.2 percent, accounting for around 187 million (16.4 percent) of all smartphone shipments in 2014. Lenovo and its latest acquisition Motorola combined took the third spot with around 94 million (7.9 percent) smartphones shipped, gaining 3 percent from 2013.
