Highlights
  • All OnePlus 5 units had "jelly scrolling" issue
  • The issue was creating a jelly-like wrapping effect while scrolling
  • OnePlus 5T doesn't come with any such issues

OnePlus on Thursday eventually ended its teasers and unveiled the awaited OnePlus 5T as its next flagship. The new smartphone is already touted to be a "refinement" of its predecessor - OnePlus 5. But there is one big refinement over the previous OnePlus flagship - it appears to have avoided the 'jelly scrolling' effect, that was spotted on the OnePlus 5.

In our time with the OnePlus 5T, we didn't see any scrolling effect. XDA - after poking around the OnePlus 5T's kernel source - reports that the display isn't inverted this time around, as it had been on the OnePlus 5, removing what was though to be the root cause of the problem. At the time, the company had stated the issue was a "natural" effect with "no variance" in screens between devices. That official comment had indicated that the issue would not be resolved through a software update.

So, for now, it appears the OnePlus 5T is here with no "jelly scrolling" effect. This may give another reason to pick the new offering to customers who were looking to buy the OnePlus 5 previously.

The OnePlus 5T also includes some tweaks over the OnePlus 5. For instance, there is a new 6.01-inch Full Optic AMOLED display with full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The latest OnePlus model runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat-based OxygenOS 4.7 that brings a Face Unlock feature. This new feature recognises facial features of users to unlock the screen, without using the available fingerprint scanner or any existing password combination.

Unlike the primary camera of the OnePlus 5 that supported 2x optical zoom, the OnePlus 5T has an upgraded dual-camera setup that has two f/1.7 aperture lenses with same 27.22mm focal length on top of 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel image sensors. The new configuration is considered to enhance low-light performance.

The OnePlus 5T with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage is available in India with a price tag of Rs. 32,999, while its 128GB variant is priced at Rs. 37,999. Both the models will be available through early access sale for Amazon Prime members in the country on November 21.
