  • Official details expected to reveal sometime later this month

Months after releasing the OnePlus 5T in Midnight Black colour, OnePlus is now apparently set to bring a new version of its latest flagship smartphone. The Shenzhen-based company has teased the launch of a new version in a short video. The new version is expected to sport a Sandstone finish, similar to the iconic OnePlus One and OnePlus 2. Last month, the Chinese maker expanded its flagship portfolio with the launch of the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition that featured a white-coloured back and included Star Wars themes.

The video, which is available on YouTube with a playtime of less than a minute, shows a mystery box that has been placed in various streets of London. It also features some people experiencing the content of the box by touching it right in the box and describing its build as "smooth", "a little bit textured", "stone", "comfortable", and an "anti-slippery metal". A couple of users in the video even mentioned a "reminiscent from the sandstone covers" of previous OnePlus flagships - hinting at the sandstone finish.

OnePlus didn't reveal the box content in the teaser video and ends it with a cliffhanger - pointing to the unboxing of the mystery in January 2018.

It is quite clear that the new video is not pointing towards an all-new launch as OnePlus is presently busy in enhancing the presence of the OnePlus 5T. However, it's safe to say that a new version would join the Midnight Black version of the latest OnePlus flagship and the Sandstone finish is likely to be the key feature of that new version. In November, the company also brought a limited edition 'Lava Red' version of the OnePlus 5T that was exclusive to the Chinese market.

The highly appreciated Sandston finish was a part of the OnePlus family until the launch of the OnePlus 2 in 2015. But with the launch of OnePlus 3 in June 2016, the company shifted to a metal back. The OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, and the newest OnePlus 5T continued the last year's aesthetics and debuted in the market with pure metal back. Last month, OnePlus shifted the design pattern a bit and brought the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition with a white textured back - in limited quantities, though.

Details about the new OnePlus 5T variant are expected to emerge in the coming weeks. The dual-SIM OnePlus 5T (Review) features a 6-inch full-HD+ Full Optic AMOLED display. It presently runs OxygenOS 4.7 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat but is upgradable to Android Oreo. The handset is powered by a 2.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 6GB and 8GB RAM options.

The OnePlus 5T sports a dual camera setup with a primary 16-megapixel Sony IMX398 sensor and a secondary 20-megapixel Sony IMX376K telephoto sensor. Further, a 16-megapixel camera sensor is available on the front. The smartphone packs a 3300mAh non-removable battery and comes with a preloaded Face Unlock feature alongside a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. Moreover, it comes in India with a starting price of Rs. 32,999.
