Intel's new open-source mobile platform hits 1.0

Intel's new open source mobile platform Tizen has reached an important milestone with release of 1.0 Larkspur SDK and source code.

Intel's new open source mobile platform Tizen has reached an important milestone with release of its 1.0 Larkspur SDK and source code. This is the first stable release of the OS SDK, after the beta was released in February this year.

Tizen is a linux-based open source operating system announced after the demise of MeeGo. Backed by Samsung and Intel, it is also supported by Linux foundation and LiMo foundation, which is a consortium of telecom giants like ACCESS, Panasonic Mobile, NEC Casio, NTT Docomo, Samsung, SK Telecom, Telefonica, and Vodafone.

The 1.0 release includes a browser based simulator, enhanced debugging tools and an improved emulator. The source code now incorporates enhanced HTML5 support, Wi-Fi Direct, and new location services functionality.
