Twitter on Wednesday rolled out a list of the most popular tweets and personalities in the year 2014, as a part of its 2014 #YearOnTwitter.
While the global 'Golden Tweet' was the selfie image posted by Ellen Degeneres during the Oscar awards this year, the Indian 'Golden Tweet' came from the #LokSabha election where Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tweet on winning the elections.

-- Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) May 16, 2014In addition, the firm in its 2014 #YearOnTwitter in India mentioned the top 10 Indian moments when the number of tweets had peaked on the micro-blogging website. The top spot has been taken by the moment when cricketer Rohit Sharma scored a record ODI score of 264 runs against Sri Lanka on 13 November.
The moment when actor Rajinikanth joined Twitter, was ranked second, followed by April 22 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi told his supporters to refrain from making irresponsible statements during the election campaign. The 2014 Pepsi IPL season returning to India was the moment in May that has been ranked at fourth place, followed by the moment when Narendra Modi gave an interview in a Hindi News channel that led to a widespread debate regarding Freedom of Press.
Other moments which made it to 2014 #YearOnTwitter's top 10 Indian moments list include Arvind Kejriwal filing nomination papers from Varanasi, India celebrating Diwali, Arvind Kejriwal being arrested for pretesting on streets of Delhi, outrage over Maria Sharapova claiming she didn't know who Sachin Tendulkar was, and Abu Azmi's claiming there should be punishment involving women in rape cases.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Golden Tweet' also topped the 20 most retweeted tweets from Indian Twitter accounts list. While actor Salman Khan's Kick movie trailer link tweet is ranked second, Rajinikanth's first ever tweet, tweets from Mars Orbiter and Sachin Tendulkar's tribute to Phil Hughes also made it to the top 20.
Twitter also revealed the top hashtags for India, with #WorldCup2014, #MH370, #MufflerMan, #MUFC, and #KashmirFloods topping the charts.
Other lists published by Twitter included top 20 most-followed Indian Twitter accounts, which featured Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aamir Khan as the top three; apart from top 10 Indian Twitter accounts with the most follower growth, which featured Narendra Modi, Aamir Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan.
Finally, the micro-blogging network listed some of the most famous Indian personalities and organisations that joined Twitter in 2014, which apart from Rajnikanth included Arjun Kapoor, the President of India, and Isro's Mars Orbiter.
