Sony LinkBuds True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Earphones Review

  • Good
  • Design ensures unmatched comfort and ambient awareness
  • Loud, clean sound
  • Uniquely effective on-device touch controls
  • Very good performance on calls and with voice-based audio
  • Bad
  • Expensive
  • Non-existent sub-bass, occasionally dull sound
  • Lack of passive isolation is distracting at times
  • No advanced Bluetooth codec support
  • No wireless charging, average battery life

True wireless earphones can be broadly categorised into two kinds of fit. These are the in-canal style which offers better noise isolation and active noise cancellation, and the outer-ear fit popularised by the original Apple AirPods, which offers a bit more comfort and the ability to hear your surroundings better. Sony's latest true wireless earphones in India, the LinkBuds (WF-L900) don't particularly fit into either category, with a radical and unconventional design that sets it apart from the competition.

Sony LinkBuds True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Earphones Summary

The Sony LinkBuds (WF-L900) is a rather unique pair of true wireless earphones, with design which does not conform to the current norms. The donut-like design ensures a natural hear-through, with the obvious caveat that it's always 'on' and can't be turned off. Of course, there is no active noise cancellation here, and no advanced codec support either.

Sound quality was decent but for the lack of sub-bass, and performance with calls and voice-based content was very good. The earphones are comfortable enough for all day wearing even when not in active use. However, the price means that if you're looknig for something more musically-inclined, the competition may serve you better.
