Google has further fuelled speculations about the possible Nexus 8 tablet having accidentally been revealed in the Android 4.4 KitKat promotional material seen on the new Android website on Monday, by changing the image to a Nexus 7 tablet overnight.

The 'Apps and Entertainment' section of Android's new official site on Monday included a promotional image of a woman holding an unknown tablet, with a different form factor, which was believed to be the alleged Nexus 8 tablet. The new image now sports the familiar Nexus 7 (2013) tablet, apparent with its wider bezels. The alleged tablet spotted on the website on Monday had thinner bezels, and appeared to run Android 4.4 KitKat, which was evident because of the white status bar icons on the screen.

The unnamed tablet, thought to be called the Nexus 8, looked a bigger than the current Nexus 7 tablets but was smaller when compared to the Nexus 10 tablet, hinting that the search engine giant might be gearing up to launch a Nexus tablet with 8-inch display to directly compete against Apple's iPad mini. As of now, no details related to the alleged unknown Nexus tablet are available.

In a similar incident earlier, Google pulled down the announcement video from YouTube and had marked it as private, when the video purportedly revealed the Nexus 5.

Google recently unveiled the much anticipated Nexus 5 smartphone and also introduced the next iteration of its mobile operating system, Android 4.4 KiKat.

The Nexus 7 (2013) 32GB 3G LTE tablet has now been listed at Rs. 25,999 on Google Play store in India, hinting that the tablet might be launched soon.
