Samsung Electronics launched its first SUHD TV range in India on Tuesday.

The new range of curved TVs will be available in 65-inch and 55-inch sizes at Samsung Smart Plazas and leading consumer electronic stores at Rs. 4,40,900 and Rs. 3,14,900, respectively.

With the launch of the new series, Samsung has finally brought its Tizen software in the premium segment which could be a major rival to Android TVs.

Alok Pathak, the head of retail sales at Samsung India Electronics, said, "Samsung has set a new industry standard for the best picture quality available today. As the first 'S' branded TV, Samsung's SUHD TV is designed to offer an outstanding viewing experience with sensational picture quality, seamless interaction and ultra-stylish design.

Samsung says the TVs will be utilising proprietary, eco-friendly 'Nano Crystal' technology and Tizen, an open-source platform, will also support the Web standard for TV app development. Consumers will be able to share video content from their Samsung smartphones to the TV.

First introduced at CES 2015, the curved SUHD TV lineup for 2015 runs on Tizen, for which Samsung said more than 700 apps were available. The 'S' is said to represent the top-end smart TV models from the company.

Samsung's SUHD TV lineup uses Nano Crystal semiconductor technology, another name for the quantum dot technology also being used by rival LG, which it claims provides 64 times more colour expression than conventional TVs, and is also 2.5 times brighter. The quantum dot TVs feature high dynamic range technology, and are said to offer superior picture quality over regular LCD sets at lower cost than organic light-emitting diode (Oled) TVs - the reason both Korean companies have shifted to the technology.
