  • The IE 800 S headphones have 7mm transducers
  • The new in-ear headphones have dual-chamber absorber system

Expanding its range of In-Ear (IE) headphones, Sennheiser has unveiled the IE 800 S. The new earbuds have a refined version of Sennheiser's proprietary Extra Wide Band (XWB) drivers to supersede the existing IE 800, and a price tag of $999 (roughly Rs. 65,000) makes them another premium option for audiophiles looking for a pocketable solution.

The Sennheiser IE 800 S have all-new transducers, as tiny as 7mm. This is remarkably smaller than the transducers available in traditional highly premium ear-canal headphones. Alongside the minimal transducer appearance, the headphones have dual-chamber absorber (D2CA) system that neutralises the infamous masking effect that impacts the audio experience mainly when the listener faces difficulty in hearing high-frequency sound at a low volume due to some interference in a lower-frequency range. Sennheiser highlights that the new system removes the energy floats from any masking resonances to prevent any unwanted peaks. Also, the available XWB drivers help to remove distortion to some extent.

Sennheiser has provided Comply-made, ergonomically designed viscoelastic memory foam ear tips on the IE 800 S. These ear tips are claimed to transform their shape on the basis of individual's ear canal to provide a comfortable audio playback experience as well as significantly reduce the external sound.

To address the demand for an improved cabling system, the Sennheiser IE 800 S headphones specifically come with the choices of cables that have 4.4mm Pentaconn and 2.5mm balanced connectors. These options come in addition to the original 3.5mm jack that will connect with your smartphones or other mobile devices.

The headphones have an impedance of 16 Ohms and a frequency response between 5Hz to 46500Hz. Lastly, they come with a maximum sound pressure level of 125dB at 1Vrms.
