Future Man, a half-hour sci-fi comedy about a janitor who gets transported through time to save humanity, has been picked up online streaming service Hulu for a 13-episode run in 2017.

The show is being executive produced by the likes of Seth Rogen (This is the End, The Interview) and Evan Goldberg (writer on those two films), and will be produced by Sony Pictures Television. The duo, along with Sony, were also responsible for this year's premiere of Preacher, based on the comic series of the same name.

Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir (producers on Sausage Party) will write for the series, with Rogen and Goldberg in charge of the story - along with Howard Overman - and direction. Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games franchise) will star in the lead as Josh Futterman, a janitor by day and a video gamer by night, who gets "recruited by mysterious visitors" to go back in time and save mankind from extinction.

Also part of the cast are Glenne Headly (The Night of), Haley Joel Osment (Alpha House), Eliza Coupe (Happy Endings), Ed Begley Jr. (2016's Ghostbusters), and Derek Wilson (Preacher).

Rogen's latest project was the adult animated hit Sausage Party, and Hutcherson is still fresh off his Hunger Games success.

Hulu has considerably ramped up its original offerings in recent years, including reviving the cancelled comedy The Mindy Project starring Mindy Kaling, comedy-drama Casual which received rave reviews in its second year, Stephen King-adaptation 11.22.63 with James Franco, and The Path involving Aaron Paul.

The network has two more shows premiering this year, Chance starring Hugh Laurie in October and Shut Eye starring Jeffrey Donovan in December.
