Great surface pro alternative. Battery life around 5 to 6 hours. Just get a power bank and you are all set.

  • Nice upgrade to the Alpha 5
    K.hubbs (Sep 23, 2017) on Amazon
Received my Acer Switch 5 (SW5 12) much faster than the estimated date and everything was included in the box. I have used the SW5 for about four weeks now with no issue and it appears that they have fixed many of the issues seen on Switch Alpha 12 (SA5). The SW5 can be charged via the USB type ?c port just like the Alpha and I have used an external monitor via the USB Type-c to HDMI converter with no issues. Battery life is anywhere from 5 to 8 hours depending on settings and what you are doing. I did stream three movies straight on Netflix starting at 100% battery and was at 28% when the 3rd movie completed. I have been very pleased with this product and the seller.

  • Great device for a fraction of the price of a Surface Pro
Jon Smith (Jun 8, 2018) on Amazon
I've only had the switch for a few weeks but this has been a great addition to my digital life. The device (I hesitate to call it a laptop or tablet) is very light weight and the adjustable kickstand makes it easy to view from almost any angle. The long battery life and standby time make it that much more of a joy to use. I'm not big on the stylus but when I've needed it, it's been spot on. And if you don't like the Acer stylus, you can use a Surface Pen. The keyboard has been one of my silent joys. I use a mechanical keyboard at home because I appreciate the key travel and feel. This keyboard is much more like a rubber dome but still has decent key travel unlike the Surface. I really could go on and on but instead I'll put a list of pros and cons below. I really hope this info helps someone that's looking at buying this great Hybrid.Pros:10 Hr batteryLightweightGreat keyboard2k screenUSB type A & USB type C ports (yes you can charge over USB-C)Wireless has good rangeCons:Screen isn't bright enough (tons of glare)You have to reconnect the keyboard sometimes to get it to switch to laptop modeFingerprint reader sometimes stops working until you reboot

  • Sensible a las caidas
Israel E. Elías Morales (Aug 24, 2020) on Amazon
Es super práctica, pero es necesario que le compres una funda y tener mucho cuidado ya que la pantalla tiende a estrellarse con facilidad. Yo la cambie una vez. La segunda ya no, la primera se callo desde la cama unos 30 cm del piso y se rompió.

  • Everything good but the battery
Jatin Sharma (Sep 12, 2017) on Amazon
This is an awesome tablet.Pros+The performance is too good, I haven't experienced lag even with 15 applications on at the same time. The 7th gen i5 does its job.+ I love the screen+ The pen and keyboard are free. I never thought I would need a pen but since I have one, I am finding myself use it very often and it makes some illustration tasks very easy.+The fingerprint reader is a good way to sign even in dark rooms when the face recognition may not work that well.+ The charger uses a dedicated port and no usb or C ports are being occupied while charging. The charging rate is super fast and one can charge it completely from 0-100 in just 100 minutes!Cons-I find the fingerprint reader disconnect sometime. I am not sure if it is just my unit.-The battery life is no where what was expected, again it could be just my unit. I get 5 hours (against 10.5 hours advertised) with my kind of heavy usage (browsing, songs, wifi, brightness 25%) but even with everything off, low brightness, and simply watching Netflix videos, this doesn't last more than 6.5 hours. Although the low charging time does make up for this but I would have returned in had the return procedure not been so difficult in US (sending it via postal service and risk losing/damaging it during the transit). In India, I could just call amazon for return and one amazon courier guy would pick it up right from my door steps, which was easy and secure.

  • powerful, small, draw onscreen, runs Linux
Mik (Mar 29, 2018) on Amazon
Nice small, fast alternative to my previous laptop. The main reason i chose this is the ability to draw with pressure onscreen without having to pay the ridiculous price of a Surface or iPad Pro + pen, and it delivered that well. The price of the Switch 5 seems to fluctuate a lot...i got mine for $750, and that was the upper limit of what i was willing to pay.Good news for Linux users: Linux is fairly easy to install, although a little different than what some (myself included) may be accustomed to. I installed Debian Testing (Buster), which required disabling secure boot, which itself required setting a boot password. I've never seen that behavior before. During installation, the "non-free" iwlwifi firmware package was needed for wifi to work; plugging in a second pendrive with this package in its root took care of it. After installation, it was necessary to disable Wayland in order for the stylus to work. I've read that Wayland will have stylus support in the upcoming 1.20 release of xorg...we'll see. The one problem i've faced after that has been having to enter password twice after returning from sleep. This may be a Gnome bug?CON: The ports and buttons seem arbitrarily placed without a lot of thought or feedback. Every few days i find myself pressing the power button while plugging something into the opposite side. The power port is particularly odd, especially if you are using this as a laptop...it would make more sense if it was at the bottom of the screen/tablet. The lack of HDMI port and only two USB ports is a little disappointing, but i hope a USB+HDMI hub will make it all better. The keyboard seems a little squishy.

  • Love it!
    Michael O. (Jan 13, 2018) on Amazon
Met or exceeded expectations. Love it. Would, and have, recommend it. Wish the battery would last all day. Charges quickly though, which helps. Trying to figure out if there is some way to rig a power bank to work with it.

  • Good value for money, feels like a real upgrade from older competing machines
Veethree (Mar 24, 2018) on Amazon
Coming from the base model Surface Pro 3, I've found this to be a major upgrade. My needs are simple - mostly Word/Excel, emails and internet with some light entertainment (Netflix. Spotify) through the day and the computer cruises through everything. It will even play some older games on reasonable settings handily. It is heavier than the Surface Pro was but is still very portable (and I'm disabled, so that's important to me) and the keyboard is easier to type on. Lots of little pluses like the fingerprint scanner and fanless operation. The only slightly disappointing element is the battery - I get about half the claimed 10.5 hour battery life on most days - but it's still workable. For the price, it's actually excellent value. I looked at many alternatives, but this one is heading the pack for this form factor in terms of what you get for your money: keyboard, pen, i5, 8gb RAM and 256gb hard drive is a good deal for just $750.Oh, and a shout out to Amazon - seamless delivery to South Africa in four working days. A pleasure.

  • nice screen, solid laptop.
Allen Vann (May 11, 2019) on Amazon
This is a very impressive high end equivalent to the Microsoft Pro at considerable less money. I had the top of the line Microsoft Pro before retirement and turned in thereafter. This was a great replacement. the Pro was an i7 processor and this one is and i5 but serves all of my needs adequately; It is fast, reliable and has an amazing screen. For convenience, I wish it had a type c/USB power cord instead of the ac adapter that it comes with but other than I have been very happy with my choice.

  • I like the tablet
Timothy (May 20, 2019) on Amazon
The tablet is okay. functions as described. The most impressive part is the wet cooling system. I have been using the system for about 3 weeks now and haven't had any issue.Although I think Acer needs to do something about their battery. But overall, I like the system.

  • Good tablet, but trackpad
SweetMonia (Feb 13, 2018) on Amazon
This tablet is generally good, but the cover is really bad. The trackpad is not just hard to use. But it sometimes behaves awkwardly, it's hard to control when it's like that. It's not that I am touching it by mistake or anything. It acts like that when I try to scroll.Whoever designed the trackpad doesn't know what they are doing.

  • Not always the greatest
SB (Apr 7, 2019) on Amazon
I bought this to use as a laptop and tablet around the house. I would like to use it more, but thankfully I have a PC I can use. I lose internet connection with this more often than my PC. The Apps I've purchased out of the Microsoft store don't always work very well. Touchscreen works, usually. I haven't tried the stylus yet. Overall it works for the simple things I have been using it for, but I should have done a lot more research.

  • You know what they say...
    Fn New-b (Jun 27, 2018) on Amazon
You get what you pay for. As much as I would love to have avoided the Microsoft Surface Pro, despite the many reasons to get the device, due to it's high asking price and not including the keyboard and stylus "accessories" to get the full 2 in 1 experience, it looks like I will be getting one after all. This device (Acer Switch 5 i5 model), while sounding good on paper for what you pay, ends up falling flat in the execution of the many things that it sets out to achieve and is a pale imitation of the device, the 2017 Microsoft Surface Pro, that it attempts to emulate. Unless you are really on a tight budget, you're better off spending the extra money for the real deal or waiting for a sale (I have seen quite a few going on lately, so Microsoft may be coming soon with a new Coffee Lake model) on the new model of the Surface Pro. Without further delay, here is the breakdown. The good:- Good specs packed in the device for what you pay (I bought the i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB model, which was about 770 USD at the time).- Fanless operation with liquid cooling keeps operation whisper quiet and (mostly) cool.- Good selection of ports including USB-A 3.0, USB-C 3.1 and microSD (no Thunderbolt port unfortunately, but hey).- Includes the keyboard and stylus pen at NO EXTRA COST! Are you listening, Microsoft?! Included keyboard was good for typing and was backlight, so bonus.- Boots quickly on cold boot and restart. The bad:- Battery life is atrocious! This is what ultimately led me to return the unit. Even with light web browsing and use, I could barely get out 6 hours of use, if that. Updates and playing a light gaming session shortened to 2.5 to 3 hours, maybe.- Sub-par display, both in pixel density and color vibrancy, compared to the competition. Had minor backlight bleed on the left side (which is common with low-quality IPS displays), but not completely terrible level of it.- Finger print scanner on the power button used for log in instead of using password with Windows Hello broke after Windows 10 updates. Don't know if it was a Win 10 OS issue or a hardware issue, but the drivers I downloaded off the Acer website for the tablet broke it even more to where the OS would no longer recognize the tablet as a Windows Hello enabled device. Rolling back the drivers in Device Manager to the factory installed ones seemed to fix it, but every time Windows updates installed or the tablet went to sleep it happened (this apparently is a known issue as I found multiple people on the Acer Switch 5 forums who had the same issue and support told them just don't let the tablet go to sleep and boot it down when done with using it, which isn't a fix but a workaround and unacceptable, at that). This was the other deal breaker for me, as I use finger print scanner for my phone and would like to use that for the tablet, but it became more headache than it's worth.- Heavier and bulkier than much of the other devices in the same class.- Stylus pen experience was... Less than desirable. Many times I used it on the touch keyboard, it failed to register my taps or touches and I would have to go back to input the key.- Keyboard would disconnect at times and go into tablet mode, but I would often have to disconnect the keyboard and go back and reconnect it to get it to go into notebook mode even if I went out of tablet mode in OS.The ugly:The raised bump on the edge of the kickstand. Seriously, what designer thought that was a good idea to add that to the device? At the end of the day, I returned the product. If you need something for your high school or college student on a budget to carry around for school and they have access to a multitude of wall outlets, than this might be the device for you as opposed to the pricier Surface Pro. But if you have the budget to spend the extra money for the i5 model of the Surface Pro or even the Eve V, which does include the keyboard and stylus with it for much cheaper than the Surface, you will be better off than taking a chance with this device. Acer cut one too many corners to keep costs down, and, unfortunately, it shows.

  • Beware of usb-c compatibility
James (Dec 9, 2017) on Amazon
They don?t say it up front, but the usb-c charging feature is pretty much useless. Bought this hoping it would work with existing accessories from my other machines, no such luck. 2 different Apple chargers, a dell charger, a dell docking station, and a Targus dock all failed to charge this tablet despite all working perfectly with both my dell and apple machines with usb-c.It?s a shame, it otherwise felt like a decent machine. Solid build feel, decent keyboard and trackpad, and surprisingly nice display quality.

  • Basically has no warranty.
JayGoat (Dec 13, 2017) on Amazon
Loved it when I got it but it quickly started to physically fall apart. The screen started to lift off the chassis so every time you pressed on it, it would creak and would physically move down like a button until it met the chassis again. Acer refused to fix it saying it was performing like it should. The screen should not be unglued from the chassis. Luckily Amazon stepped up and is giving me a full refund on this since Acer isn't standing behind their product. For anyone wondering, this still doesn't have a scratch on it and it wasn't abused. I'd imagine the screen is glued to the chassis much in the same way they are on cell phones and the adhesive just started to give out. Should be a simple fix but Acer refused to do it. I heard horror stories about Acer and I should of listened to them. Really don't know what I'm going to replace this with.

  • keyboard is a real pain....do not purchase
    David A (Jan 13, 2019) on Amazon
The battery life is poor, the keyboard is not always recognized by the computer, a real pain, the touch screen works well03-05-19 UpdateI have to downgrade my rating from 3 to 1 star, here is why:I had to send the computer back for keyboard repair (2 weeks to have it back) after no more than a month later the mousepad on the new keyboard stopped working.... this computer is not reliable at all...what a waste of money...I really advise NOT TO PURCHASE this model since it is not as good quality as it should.
