Skype for Windows Phone v1.0 goes live, sheds beta tag

  • Microsoft has released the first official version of Skype for Windows Phone app in Marketplace.
Sticking to its Mobile World Congress promise of delivering the full version of Skype Windows Phone app, Microsoft has released the version 1.0 in Marketplace. This version sheds the beta tag as well as brings several new features.

Skype Windows Phone app now includes search, add new contacts feature and minor improvements. The initial user reviews have been mixed with users mainly complaining about the missing ability to receive calls when Skype isn't running, which means you will always need to keep the app active otherwise other users won't be able to Skype you.

More new features in Skype v1.0 for Windows Phone

  • Ability to call landlines
  • Improved launch time
  • Portrait mode video calling
  • Support for joining audio conference calls
  • Call-in-progress notifications
  • Block and unblock contacts
  • General bug fixes

Skype for Windows Phone allows you to connect with friends and family via free voice and video calls anywhere you go on 4G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks. Users can also make affordable calls to landlines and mobiles using Skype Credit.
