Vivaldi 1.14 with vertical reader mode

Distinguishing the experience from leading Web browsers, Vivaldi 1.14 has arrived with a vertical reader mode. The new Vivaldi update also includes Markdown support for the built-in note-taking feature and re-arrangeable Web panels. It is available for download on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The Oslo, Norway-based company is celebrating its third anniversary since the first public technical preview of the Vivaldi browser in January 2015 by bringing the latest version.

The vertical reader mode in Vivaldi 1.14 is specifically designed to cater users of East Asian languages, including Chinese (simplified and traditional), Japanese, and Korean, in which a vertical display is one of the default ways to read the text. To opt the new mode, you just need to change your reading preference by going to Webpages > Settings and then clicking the Allow Vertical Text Direction option. "We are confident that with this unique feature, users of the East Asian languages all across the globe will have yet another reason to choose Vivaldi," said Jon von Tezchner, CEO, Vivaldi Technologies.

In addition to the new reading experience, the Vivaldi 1.14 version has an upgraded note-taking feature with Markdown support. This gives a Reddit-like, natural and intuitive way of applying formatting such as headers, bolding, and bulleted lists to notes just while browsing a site. The latest integration is quite useful if you want to organise notes, compose emails, or build to-do lists alongside surfing important on the Web. The fresh Markdown support also lets you preview a simple HTML code.

Vivaldi 1.14 also brings re-arrangeable Web panels that host bookmarks on the sidebar of the browser. You can leverage the new improvement to adjust the width for different Web panels as well as reorganise and customise their positions in the sidebar. Similarly, the updated Vivaldi browser allows you to reorder the available search engines. There is a new list layout from where a simple drag-n-drop gesture can reorder search engines to offer the most required engine on top.
