Samsung's August 2026 SMR now seems to be reaching more Galaxy devices. It was first released for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and several other Galaxy handsets. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Summary

Samsung has fixed almost everything with last year's Fold 7. The display crease on the main display is nearly gone, the screen handles sunlight better now, the battery is bigger on paper, and the performance is legitimately flagship-tier. The camera's better too, mostly thanks to a much-improved ultrawide lens. What didn't get fixed is the telephoto camera, and the design, which still looks like last year's phone. Add in another price hike, and "Ultra" starts to feel more like a marketing gimmick.

Feels like a phone and tablet in one

The screen is the first thing that impressed me. It feels like carrying a small tablet that folds into a proper phone. Multitasking between email and documents is fantastic, and the cameras are finally on the same level as the rest of the Ultra experience.

Gaming on the 8-inch display is fantastic. The cooling also seems to keep performance steady during long sessions. This is the first foldable I have used that feels like a real all-rounder.

The 200MP camera is seriously impressive in daylight, and the zoom is very useful when travelling. I also love how quickly the big screen turns into a full workspace for messages, mail and Chrome.

Big screen without the bulk

What surprised me most is how light the Fold8 Ultra feels for such a big phone. The hinge is smooth, the display is gorgeous and the battery comfortably gets me through busy days.
