Here’s something you probably didn’t know – up until the mid-sixteenth century, March used to be the first month of the year in some parts of the world. The reason for that was quite simple. March beckons the arrival of spring, which equates to the harvest season. Naturally, it’d be a period of celebration – in the form of religious festivals – after the harshness of winter, so it made sense to mark it as the start of a new year.

That’s true right here in our motherland too – from Gudhi Padva, to Holi. But what’s that got to do with Netflix, you ask? Well, not of all of us are lucky (or willing) to enjoy the new smells and sights that spring brings with it. Thankfully, streaming services aren’t weather-permitting.

With that, here are our five guaranteed-good picks for March 2017, and the full list of movies and TV shows coming to Netflix India after that.

Marvel’s Iron Fist: Season 1 / March 17
Marvel’s final Defender is rather different from his other squad members – for one, he’s got something mystical in his right fist, and two, he’s a billionaire. After becoming a lone survivor in a plane accident as a child, Danny Rand is taken in by the people of K’un-Lun, who train him in their ways. Fifteen years later, he returns to New York City to fight the criminal elements that are rotting the city from within.

13 Reasons Why: Season 1 / March 31
Based on Jay Asher’s best-selling book of the same name, 13 Reasons Why – developed by Brian Yorkey, known for Broadway musical Next to Normal – is about a high school student who receives a bunch of cassette tapes from a classmate. The twist? She recorded them before ending her life. As you can tell, the tapes list the reasons she chose to do so.

Ugly / March 1
Anurag Kashyap (Gangs of Wasseypur) co-wrote and directed this moving and harrowing tale of a missing girl, which screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Tejaswini Kolhapure starred as the central female character, whose psychological journey is depicted in all its dark and troubled emotional rawness.

Love: Season 2 / March 10
Written and executive produced by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, This is 40) and Paul Rust, the latter also playing one of the leads in Gus, Love didn’t have the strongest of starts in its first season. But there was a certain charm to the show, helped by the unusual spark between Gillian Jacobs’ Mickey, and Rust’ Gus. The second season moves into the zone of commitment, as chaos unfurls around them.

Grace and Frankie: Season 3 / March 24
The third season of this unlikely comedy hit – the first season was mediocre, before the second came to life – finds Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin) trying to kick-start their new business (it involves sex toys), all while having to deal with friendship and family troubles.
