Popular multiplayer online battle arena game, League of Legends, now has its own official social app. It's called League of Friends and its available on Android and iOS. At the time of writing this, the app is yet to be made live on Google Play in India.

With it you can chat with your friends, add new ones, and get invited to games. It also syncs messages across all your devices and your PC if you have the League client installed. While it might seem rudimentary, League of Legends creator Riot Games claims its functionality will evolve over time to include additional features "evolving as League of Legends does."

For a game that's as popular as League of Legends, it comes as a surprise that it took so long for Riot to release an official app. The game made a staggering $1.6 billion (almost Rs. 10,879 crores) last year according to market research firm Superdata.

Late last year, Riot planned to link in-game rewards to user behaviour which could just be the impetus needed to make the game's notorious community less toxic and more welcoming to newcomers. With the game's seemingly unwavering popularity, an app might just be the right way to capitalise on the mindspace of its fans when they're away from a PC.
