Launched in 2006, the Nintendo Wii is arguable one of the most successful consoles. It redefined gaming with button-less gestures, that made big-wigs like Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation go back to the drawing board. They took almost four years to come up with Xbox Kinect and PlayStation move to counter the gesture based controls of the Wii.

Though Wii had gestures based controls it lagged the Xbox and PlayStation consoles because it did not support high-definition gaming. Now, Gameinformer.com reports that Nintendo may finally announce a HD console at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) 2011.

It is expected to be more powerful than the XBOX 360 and the PS3. The best part is that the device is also expected to be backward compatible with the current generation Wii games and may see the light of day in 2012.

Nintendo has always maintained a strong games library that has included timeless classics such as Mario and Zelda who may now be in action on a HD console. The game controller too may face a revamp.

Nintendo has recently launched a 3D handheld gaming device called the Nintendo 3DS that allows players to enjoy 3D gaming on a handheld device without the need to wear 3D glasses. The Nintendo 3DS was launched in the US for $250 on March 27, 2011 and sold more than 400,000 units in the first seven days.

Although the Nintendo 3DS hasn't officially launched in India, it is available on game4u.com for Rs. 21,990.
