  • The PUBG Event Pass launched alongside the Sanhok map
  • It locks out non-purchasers from XP, levels, and items
  • PUBG is now down to a peak of 1.75 million players

If you're playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) on PC, you can purchase the PUBG Event Pass. It was introduced alongside the new Sanhok map on June 22 and it helps you unlock more cosmetic customisations. However without it, you're locked out of a large number of items, experience points, and levels. Thanks to the PUBG subreddit (via VG247), it's come to light what exactly you're missing out on without the PUBG Event Pass. And it turns out that you're in for a big grind without it.

PUBG mission XP without the PUBG Event Pass

  • 120 XP per day from Dailies

  • 80 XP max per day from playing

  • 1200 XP total with the completable missions on 'Normal'

"That is all you can get per day if you don't buy the pass. Any mission that is green require the pass to claim the XP on," writes Redditor iisfitblud who worked out the math on the PUBG subreddit. "Works out as 240XP per day. You need 400XP to level, therefore you can only get to level 18 if you don't purchase the pass. This means that it literally isn't even possible to get one of the new items they added for free people. Another minor thing that I found to be an inconvenience is not having the ability to see missions when you're in-game."

As per this estimate, you’ll need to play six to eight hours per day for the entire season of 29 days to reach level 20. The user also put up a handy list of free rewards and the time taken to earn them if you don't spring for the PUBG Event Pass.

The PUBG Event Pass appears to be PUBG Corp's way to retain an audience that seems to be dropping off. SteamCharts shows that PUBG is now down to a peak of 1.75 million players in the last month, which represents a drop of 46 percent from its peak of 3.23 million players back in January this year. Average player count has been falling every month too, having gone from 1.58 million in January to 0.8 million this month. The highest drop-off was in May (20 percent).
