Digg had earlier announced that it was working on a substitute for Google Reader, the RSS reader that the search giant is shutting down.

The news-sharing website has now announced that its reader will be rolled out next week as a public beta. The company declared on its blog that it would be launching the first version of the RSS reader labeled as the Digg Reader next week. The announcement comes close to the shutdown of the popular Google RSS reader. The service will end operations on July 1.

Digg Reader would offer migration from Google Reader. Digg claims that the interface will offer a clean reading experience that puts the focus squarely on the articles, posts, images, and videos themselves. Digg will also integrate useful mobile apps that sync with Reader's web experience. The company's CTO also confirmed that Pocket and Instapaper integration will be in there for launch and Digg will integrate more services post launch. Lastly, it will have support for key actions like subscribing, sharing, saving and organising.

During 60 days following the launch, Digg will focus on an Android application, better ranking and filtration of news depending upon the reader's interests and integration with additional third-party services like Buffer and Evernote. Reader will also have a better search and notifications base in the future, Digg shared.

Digg had announced in the past that Reader will be a 'freemium' service. They have clarified that all the new features as well as majority of those that will be unveiled in the future will actually be free.

Digg has announced that everyone will have access to the Digg Reader version 1, that the company is labeling as beta, by June 26th.

With Google Reader discontinued, power RSS users might actually be feeling the void. If the Digg Reader does work out the way the promises claim, it might just be the perfect substitute. The service would also be competing with other popular RSS readers like Feedly and NewsBlur.
