Flipkart has sued Nikon India in the Karnataka High Court for placing an alert on its website, cautioning customers from buying from its online marketplace. The case was filed on by Venkatesh Murthy on August 3, and the next hearing is scheduled on August 21 by judge BS Patil.

Nikon India had posted a notice on its website on June 16, stating that e-commerce websites like Flipkart and Snapdeal "are not our authorised partner/dealer(s)," advising customers to "check the warranty entitlements while buying from online portals."

While the post has since been taken down from the Nikon India website, we were able to find an archive of it on the Internet Archive.

"They have singled us out and they cannot make such statements" said a person familiar with Flipkart's case to The Economic Times.

In the past, tech brands like Lenovo, LG, and Toshiba have also issued advisories on their websites advising consumers to not buy from unauthorised resellers.

Resellers retailing counterfeit HP products on Flipkart and Snapdeal were raided in Mumbai a month ago, brands like JBL and Chumbak have raised the issue of counterfeit goods on online retail platforms before.
