  • Google's AutoDraw makes use of machine learning
  • It is based on Google's Quick, Draw! experiment
  • You can draw and paint anything to get some really good art

If you love sketching and making doodles but find doing it hard using a mouse on your PC, Google may just have a solution to it. Luckily, Google has released an artificial intelligence based bot called 'AutoDraw' that turns not so proficient doodles into meaningful sketches. It is available to play with right away on its website and will be accessible via smartphone, tablet, and PC.

The new innovation from Google is based on learnings from its Quick, Draw! mini-game that used neural networks to recognise doodles.

With the help of neural networks and machine learning, Google AutoDraw analyses your drawing and suggests different objects and sketches based on it from its database. To begin with, AutoDraw provides a white canvas where you can scribble and just above the canvas is a bar showing possible matches to your drawing. You can also choose to draw whatever you want without any suggestions from Google, along with text box, shape, and fill colour options. Doodles, as well as individual shapes and lines, can be resized as well.

For example, if you draw two lines crossing each other, Google will suggest objects like a barbed wire, an axe, a rail track, among everything else that the neural network thinks resembles it. Once you click on the suggestion, it converts your doodle into the artist-provided shape. You can see how that happens in the video above.

If you like the Google AutoDraw result, you can download it on your device and share on social on social networks as well. For the initial rollout, Google used designs from artists and design studios, who it thanks in its blog post.

Google's AutoDraw also provides an option for artists to submit their drawings to be featured as suggestions, which currently show up with a yellow star alongside. Users will also be able to request objects that show up as suggestions.
