Google Domains is now open to the public in the US. The service, like most Google services, had launched on an invite-only basis last year.

Like most domain registrars, Google Domains lets people buy and sell domain names. Users can also create up to 100 email addresses under each domain name. Generic top-level domains such as .coffee, .photography, etc are available via this service and Google says it is adding more of these.

The price of domains starts at $12 per year. Google Domains also lets you create websites via services such as Blogger, Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly and Wix. This move brings Google into competition with services such as GoDaddy and highlights Google's push into the enterprise market. Google now offers a slew of services for the enterprise market, including email, My Business app and Business View.

Google had launched the My Business app last year to enable small and medium businesses to reach their customers. The Business View service allows businesses to provide customers with a virtual walkthrough of their premises. We went behind the scenes to find out more about Business View and you should read our article on how it is being used in India.

Some of the features available for free in Google Domains, such as 100 email addresses, are in paid tiers with competitors. As of now, there is no word on whether Google Domains will be available to people living outside the US. If you are among them and are interested in Google Domains, you can sign up here. Google will send you an email when the service becomes available in your country.
