Doodle 4 Google - India Winning Entry Featured on Google's Home Page on Children's Day

Google is featuring the winning entry of the sixth Doodle 4 Google - India contest on its India home page on Friday. The winning Doodle 4 Google - India entry titled 'Natural and Cultural Paradise - Assam' by Vaidehi Reddy (Army Public School, Pune) finds itself of the Google India homepage on November 14, the birthday of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, which is celebrated as Children's Day in India.

Google on Wednesday concluded its sixth Doodle 4 Google - India contest and announced the winner of this year's Google doodle design competition, with Reddy winning the prize. Google's Doodle 4 Google - India competition is an annual Google competition that was launched back in 2009 and is open to students from class 1 to 10, who are invited to design the Google doodle to celebrate Children's Day in the country.

This year's theme for Doodle 4 Google - India competition was 'A place in India I wish to visit' that saw over 1 million entries from more than 1,700 schools across 50 cities in India. Google had shortlisted 12 Doodle 4 Google - India doodles that were put up for online voting.

The winner of the Doodle 4 Google - India contest however, was chosen by Google's National Jury that included political cartoonist Ajit Ninan, Art Director Children's Publishing at ACK Media Savio Mascarenhas, and Google Doodle team lead Ryan Gerick.

Commenting on the announcement, Rajan Anandan, Vice President and Managing Director, Google India said, "Doodle 4 Google - India is the perfect platform for the youth of India to showcase their talent on an international platform. It allows youngsters from not only the metros but from Tier II, III and even IV cities to participate, which is evident from the entries seen this year. The response of over 1 million entries is indeed overwhelming and the talent which has surfaced through the entries is remarkable."

Google's Kristopher Hom, Software Engineer, Doodle Team said on the Doodle 4 Google - India contest, "It has been a wonderful experience to be present at a contest like Doodle 4 Google in India. I enjoyed witnessing young creative minds showcase and bring to life the places they want to visit in their own country. Being a part of the Doodle team, I am always inspired by such creativity."
