Google seems to be planning to take its Chromebook to a whole new level with a high definition touch screen supporting a 2560x1700 resolution and ready to take on Apple's Retina MacBook Pro. Well that's what seems likely from a new video posted by developer Francois Beaufort to his Google+ page.

"The more pixels we add, the more wonderful the world," says the video's narrator. Francois Beaufort mentions that the device is called Google Link and is currently undergoing testing at Google's Mountain View campus.

The video titled "New ChromeBook Pixel - Next Generation Concept" begins with the definition of pixels and goes on to hint at what could be expected from Google's next generation Chromebook. The designed by engineers at Google, the machines strikes great resemblance with Apple's Mac Book Pro, especially the way the keyboard is laid out.

The video was apparently leaked by Slinky.me who have worked with Google in the past. A message posted on the website's homepage says that the website was attacked by hackers who may have leaked the video.

Slinky.me CEO Victor Koch has posted a public apology on Google+ claiming his company's servers were "attacked by hackers." Another update posted by him mentions, "We have identified important information. One of the attacks were carried out from China. The investigation continues."

But questions remain unanswered regarding pricing, availability and the sheer authenticity of the video. However, we do expect to see the device make its debut at Google's I/O event scheduled to take place this May.

Google launched its Chromebooks in May 2011. Since then, the company has released various versions of Chromebook laptops in partnership with Samsung (Review) and Acer. Chromebooks run on the Chrome OS. which resembles, for the most part, the Google Chrome browser.

Initially the Chromebooks got off to a slow start regarding sales but have recently shown signs of popularity, after Google made the laptops available to classrooms for an attractive price of just $99.

Here's a look at the video that highlights the concept behind Google's Chromebook Pixel.
