In our weekly column - Personally Tech - we look at the apps and gadgets that people from all walks of life love and can't live without. This week, we caught up with Satinder Sohi, India Director at Freescale Semiconductors.

You might not have heard about Freescale, but you've probably used devices that use the company's products. For example, if you ever played Guitar Hero, then you've used a motion sensing accelerometer made by Freescale. Many Kindle models also use processors made by Freescale.

The company was launched in 1948 as a division of Motorola, and today it is headquartered in the US but has offices in 19 countries around the world, including India.

This means that Sohi has to travel around the world fairly frequently, and he tells NDTV Gadgets that he really wishes we had virtual SIM cards that could be used in multiple countries.

Read on to find out more about the gadgets that make Sohi tick.

Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?

Satinder Sohi: I have a mix of devices in the house - I use an iMac, a Toshiba laptop, an Apple iPhone 5s and I also keep a Motorola Moto G with dual SIM for travel. At home I connect it all to a D-Link Wi-Fi router and a Tata Photon for travel. I also keep a Garmin GPS for travel to UK and the USA.

What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?

Satinder Sohi: That's a tough call, but I travel a lot, and so my top picks are also useful for that. WhatsApp keeps me in touch with friends and family when traveling. Google Maps helps me to get around wherever I am. And Flightaware is essential if you're traveling.

Which is the one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?

Satinder Sohi: Although the smartphone can be used for most communication, I still prefer to use my laptop for work on the go, so I can't go anywhere without it.

What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?

Satinder Sohi: A smart phone with virtual SIM capability to make it easier to use my phone in multiple countries without having to carry multiple SIM cards.

How has technology changed the way in which you work?

Satinder Sohi: Being a people person, I like to keep in touch with friends around the world. Having WhatsApp makes it easy to stay connected with friends and family.
