  • The news comes courtesy Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis
  • Cirrus Logic, audio part supplier, is said to lose out the most
  • The adapter is currently sold as a standalone accessory

Apple had first removed the 3.5mm jack - in a "courageous" move - with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch back in 2016. In an interesting set of revelations by Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis and his associates, Apple now appears unlikely to bundle the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter with the 2018 iPhone lineup set to launch later this year. As a result, the analyst believes, supplier Cirrus Logic will lose the most as it produces the audio parts used inside the adapter.

In a report by MacRumors, a research note has been obtained that lowers quarterly and yearly revenue predictions for Cirrus Logic by up to 5 percent considering these recent developments. The report also mentions that the absence of an headphone jack adapter in the boxes of the 2018 iPhone variants could merely be a guess from Barclays considering it had previously stated that it might take time till May or June to come to a conclusion.

The Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter is currently sold as a $9 (roughly Rs. 600) standalone accessory by Apple to help users get an inexpensive replacement if they happen to lose the bundled one. However, it seems you will be forced to spend those extra bucks if you want to use a wired headset with any of the iPhone models coming out in 2018.

Talking about the rumoured 2018 iPhone lineup, all leaks point towards three new variants - a 6.1-inch LCD one, a 5.8-inch OLED model, and a 6.3-inch OLED variant. All three models might sport the same design as the one on the iPhone X, including a display notch, and edge-to-edge display, and a vertical dual rear camera setup.
