The Motorola Razr was an iconic smartphone in the early 2000s

The once iconic Motorola phone — Motorola Razr — could make a comeback as early as next month. Motorola's ultra-thin, flip phone was quite a rage back in the early 2000s, even before Apple's iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy phones had launched. In its new avatar, the Motorola Razr could be a foldable smartphone with a premium price tag, according to The Wall Street Journal. Lenovo, Motorola's owner, could bring back the Razr smartphone with a foldable display.

The report also states that Lenovo is working with US telecom major Verizon to launch the phone in February. The revamped Motorola Razr may be priced at $1,500 (roughly Rs. 1,04,300). That's quite a high price for a device that screams nostalgia.

Lenovo-owned Motorola hasn't confirmed the report yet. The Motorola Razr had released initially in 2004 dubbed as the Razr V3. The phone set a hot new trend among young mobile phone users, thanks to its ultra-thin stylish design. The phone reportedly sold over 130 million units in four years.

However, this isn't the first time Motorola and Verizon have tried to bring back the Razr brand of mobile phones. Back in 2011 and 2012, the companies had worked on launching Droid Razr branded Android smartphones with a thin form factor. The Droid Razr was the thinnest mobile phone in the world when it launched.

While most things still remain unclear about the new Motorola Razr smartphone, we're expecting a fair share of foldable smartphones this year. Last week at CES, we spotted the Royole FlexPai, the world's first foldable smartphone. Samsung's Galaxy F is also expected to debut soon while several other companies are supposedly secretly working on their own foldable phones and devices.

If Lenovo does bring back the Motorola Razr, it could brighten up the Motorola brand once again. One thing remains certain, we will see a lot of foldable mobile phones in 2019.
