It looks like the forthcoming Moto X phone will come with customisable back panels, if a new leak is to be believed.

French website, NoWhereElse.fr, has published images of purported back panels of the Moto X smartphone. The back panels appear to be made of plastic, have been pictured in teal, red, purple and green colours, and feature round slots for the camera lens, flash and a speaker outlet. They also sport a white coloured Motorola logo. According to the website, Motorola will offer a choice of sixteen colours for the phone's back panel.

Another report by ABC News informs that users will be able to select a palette of different colours, one for the back panel and the other for the trim of the phone, through a website. Customers will also be able to get a name or message engraved on the back panel and upload one of their photos to be used as the default wallpaper. The report cites people familiar with the rollout of the phone to inform that the phone will run Android 4.2.2 which is currently being tested by US carriers and that it will be available online as well as through carriers.

The leak comes shortly after Motorola published full page ads in US newspapers The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, on Wednesday.

The ad clearly mentions that the Moto X would be the first phone that consumers will be able to design themselves. In fact, it ends with the tagline 'Designed by You. Assembled in the USA'.

It also focuses on how the Moto X phone will be designed, engineered and assembled in the USA, playing on the patriotic spirit, at a time when most mobile and computing devices are assembled in overseas production facilities in China, Vietnam and other countries.

Just a week back a new picture of what is claimed to be the Moto X phone had surfaced online.

@evleaks had also revealed the specifications of the much awaited smartphone through a tweet. As per the tweet, the phone is expected to come with a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro MSM8960 processor alongside 2GB of RAM. It is expected to come with a 720p resolution display and 16GB of internal storage. The leak also specified a 10-megapixel rear shooter and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. Just like the new report, even the tweet suggested that the phone will run Android 4.2.2.
