DisplayMate, a display evaluation and consulting firm, has put the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 through its gamut of tests, and declared it to be the "the best performing smartphone display that we have ever tested"

The firm said the Galaxy Note 4's display either matched or set records for absolute colour accuracy, screen resolution, contrast ratio, peak brightness, contrast rating in ambient light, and the smallest brightness variation with viewing angle. DisplayMate also commented on the Galaxy Note 4's colour management ability to deliver multiple colour gamuts, something the testing firm said was not provided by other manufacturers.

DisplayMate added that the Galaxy Note 4's display had the best all around results since it had started such test reports in 2006.

The Galaxy Note 4 delivers uniformly consistent all around Top Tier display performance: it is the first Smartphone display to ever get all Green (Very Good to Excellent) Ratings in all test and measurement categories (except one Yellow for a Brightness Variation with Average Picture Level) since we started the Display Technology Shoot-Out article Series in 2006, an impressive achievement for a display.

It also noted a significant improvement in display power efficiency between the Galaxy Note 3 and the Note 4, despite the increase in resolution resulting in "almost double the number of pixels."

The Galaxy Note 4's Display Technology Shoot-Out report details that the smartphone's 'AMOLED Photo screen mode' provides a very accurate Adobe RGB standard calibration, useful for "high-end digital photography and other advanced imaging applications."

The evaluation firm says it was provided a pre-release production unit of the Galaxy Note 4 ahead of the official release for its elaborate display tests.

It's worth mentioning that the Galaxy Note 4 is not the only Samsung handset this year with the title of sporting "best performing smartphone display", as DisplayMate had declared the Galaxy S5 sporting the same title at the time of launch earlier this year.
