Facebook partners with Trend Micro to counter malware threat

  • Trend Micro enters into a partnership with Facebook to offer users protection against malware threats.
Trend Micro, a leading cloud security service provider today announced a strategic tie-up with Facebook to offer users protection of their digital data against malicious sites and malware.
 
The Trend Micro Smart Protection network infrastructure uses cloud technology, threat correlation and a universal network of threat intelligence sensors to stop web threats before they reach any device accessible by the user. The service will now be integrated into Facebook, which will block malicious links from their site.
 
When Facebook users accessing a Mac, PC or any other mobile device click on links posted on their wall or their friends' wall, the network performs a real time analysis of the URL and its content to make sure whether or not it is safe. If the network detects it as unsafe, then Trend Micro will warn the user of its malicious being. On a daily basis, Trend Micro blocks over 1.4billion threats and processes more than 300 million new URLs.
 
Facebook and Trend Micro shall also educate users of the latest threat developments through various, blog posts, e-guides, videos  and on-going contributions on the Facebook Security Page.
