In spite of criticisms that Google + lacks a truly active user base, company has apparently continued to plug away at their social network. Google has announced at its I/O 2012 Keynote that Google + is getting an events feature and a new tablet-specific Google Plus app.

Though it launched only a year ago, Google + has already acquired 250 million users. When compared with Facebook's 900 million, it appears insignificant, especially and when that number counts only those who use the service in a given month. However, the salient point to be kept in mind is that Facebook only boasted of 1 million users on completing its first year.

Another angle of looking at things is that Google, rather than providing an individual social experience, Google provides a complete and all-encompassing social experience as compared to other social networking sites because of its different products, like YouTube and Gmail.

For a service that's trying to compete with Facebook, the lack of events support has always been a big problem for Google +. The company is putting their own spin on the idea, at least, even if they are rather late rolling it out. Google + event invites smartly combine the company's other products with attached YouTube greetings and automatic Calendar integration. The app will help you send invites to friends for events such as birthday parties.

The real feature which adds a kick to Google + is the feature called Party Mode. Once users enable it on their mobile devices, the pictures they take get added to the event in real time, which get arranged in chronological order. Not only does this keep photos of the event from getting scattered across a dozen different profiles, it also allows hosts to project a "live slideshow" of the images as they get taken.

Google also says more people use Google + from mobile devices than traditional computers. The version for Android devices is already available while the version for Apple's iPad is said to be "coming soon".
