Twitter Now Lets You Reset Password Using Mobile Number; Will Block 'Suspicious Logins'

Twitter has rolled out two new features designed to make it easier to restore access to your account and enhance its overall security.

"Losing or forgetting your Twitter password can be a frustrating experience," Mollie Vandor, Product Manager at Twitter, said in a blog post. "We've redesigned the password reset process to make it easier to get back into your account."

The new password reset process lets you choose the email address or phone number associated with your account where you'd like Twitter to send your reset information. Earlier, you could only reset via your email address.

Twitter says it has also made it easier to reset a lost password on your iOS or Android device and added some customised tips to help you strengthen your account security in the future.

With people using multiple Twitter clients, securing the account is another challenge. Towards this end, Twitter has introduced a new feature that analyses logins and asks you to verify your identity in case a flag is raised:

If we identify a login attempt as suspicious, we'll ask you a simple question about your account -- something that only you know -- to verify that your account is secure before granting access. We'll also send you an email to let you know that we've detected unusual activity so you can update your password if need be.

Twitter says it looks at things like location from which the login attempt originated, the device being used, and your login history before classifying a login as 'suspicious'.
