Following Acer's footprints, Asus took to the stage on Wednesday at the sidelines of the ongoing IFA trade show event to unveil its new products. The company's long anticipated Asus ZenWatch 2 smartwatch has been detailed with specifications, pricing, and availability. The company had first unveiled the smartwatch at Computex 2015 back in June.

Addressing the emerging and rapidly growing wearable market, the ZenWatch 2 is very similar to the original ZenWatch which Asus had launched in 2014. But there are several noticeable improvements in design and hardware.

The ZenWatch 2 comes in two screen sizes: 1.63-inch (WI502Q) and 1.45-inch (WI501Q), with 320x320 pixels and 280x280 pixels screen resolutions respectively, with Amoled display technology and 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The larger variant will sport a 22mm strap and 49mm stainless steel case, while the smaller one will feature a 18mm strap and 45mm stainless steel case. The smartwatch features IP67 rating for water resistance.

Inside the timepiece sits Qualcomm's APQ 8026 SoC with four 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 cores. Other features of the ZenWatch 2 include 4GB of internal NAND storage and 512MB of LPDDR2 RAM.

It's worth pointing out that this is rather an interesting choice to put a seemingly less powerful processor in the device. You see a vast majority of the Android Wear devices that were launched in the first wave had Snapdragon 200 and 400 series of chipsets, that are also used in the smartphones. The miniature chipset could significantly improve one of the most annoying issues that many of today's smartwatches have: poor battery life.

Speaking of which, the smaller ZenWatch 2 comes with 300mAh battery, while the larger one rocks a 400mAh battery. The company says that the devices should last for 2 days on regular usage.

The company will begin selling the ZenWatch 2 starting with select regions in October. The larger variant is priced at EUR 149 (roughly Rs. 11,100) and EUR 169 (roughly Rs. 12,600). The smartwatch will be available in several different straps and colours.
