Basis, the health and fitness brand now owned by Intel, has launched the Peak fitness tracker.

The company has announced that the Basis Peak, priced at $199 (roughly Rs. 12,000), will be available in the US starting November at select retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy and the company's own online store (mybasis.com). The new fitness tracker will be also launched in Canada and the UK later this year.

The company touts the new Basis Peak as the "ultimate fitness and sleep tracker." In a blog post the company said, "We're proud to announce Basis Peak, the ultimate fitness and sleep tracker. With Peak, you get deep insights into how your body is performing, from workouts to sleep and everything in-between."

Notably, the Peak, much like a smartwatch, shows notifications from the synced phone. The company notes, "While not available immediately at launch, this feature will be a free future upgrade to all Peak customers. And, as Basis is known for, we'll roll out new software features over time."

It is compatible with Android and iOS smartphones via the company's Peak companion apps for the respective platforms. The new Basis Peak fitness tracker comes with 5 sensors for heart rate, motion, perspiration and skin temperature measurement, while it can also automatically track activity with preinstalled BodyIQ technology for detecting walks, runs, bike rides, sleep and wake-up times. The company claims that the Peak fitness tracker can have advanced sleep analysis by measuring deep/light sleep, or toss-and-turns, interruptions and sleep quality as well.

The Basis Peak fitness tracker features an aluminium body, apart from sporting a touchscreen with gesture recognition and Gorilla Glass protection. The tracker features customisable soft silicone straps, and is water resistant (up to 5ATM, or 50 metres), which should make it suitable for swimming and not diving. It includes a vibration motor for alerts, and a magnetic charging cradle. The Basis Peak fitness tracker is said to have a battery life up to four days.

The company as of now has not revealed the detailed specifications of the Peak fitness tracker.
