Samsung Gear S2 Classic 18K Rose Gold, Platinum Variants Launched in India

Samsung India on Monday announced the availability of premium 18K Rose Gold and Platinum models of the Gear S2 Classic smartwatch. Both the new smartwatch models will be retailing in India at Rs. 34,900. The South Korean company also revealed a White Gear S2 variant which will be available at Rs. 24,300.

With the new additions, the Samsung Gear S2 will be available in 5 variants in India - Gear S2 Classic Black, Gear S2 Classic Rose Gold, Gear S2 Classic Platinum, Gear S2 Black, and Gear S2 White. Apart from the new models, Samsung also expanded the choice of apps and Dial faces available to the Samsung Gear S2 and Samsung Gear S2 Classic smartwatches.

The set of new apps include the Uber for Gear app that will allow users to locate, request and confirm cabs right from the smartwatch; G'Night sleep tracking app that analyses user sleep cycles; My Notes in Gear, a note-taking and checklist app for the smartwatch, and Xenozu, a YouTube browsing app has been added to the Gear S2.

Some of the other apps that were available to Samsung Gear S2 and S2 Classic smartwatches include Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook among others. Samsung has also introduced a wider catalogue of dial faces to choose from including visual animated art of Peanuts; functional dial faces that can call out weather, moon phases, health goals, reminders, and notifications all in one screen.

Some of the new games introduced for the Gear S2 include Hextris, Vroom Rider, and Hangman. Samsung says that the new apps can use the rotating bezel of the Gear S2 as a game controller.

To refresh, the Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches feature a 1.2-inch circular Super Amoled display with a screen resolution of 360x360 pixels and a pixel density of 302ppi. The new wearables are powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor. Tizen OS-based smartwatch comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. Both are IP68-certified which means the Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic are dust and water resistant. They also feature accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate, ambient light, and barometer sensor. The smartwatch supports wireless charging and pack a 250mAh battery with a typical usage of 2-3 days.
