In our weekly column we look at the apps and gadgets that people in different walks of life love and rely on. This week, we go Personally Tech with Balaji Rajagopalan who was appointed Executive Director Technology, Channels and International Distributor Operations, Xerox India in September.

While most people think of photocopiers when they think of Xerox, it was actually one of the first "tech" companies - in 1970 it founded the Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center) that laid the foundation for personal computers, graphical user interfaces, and much more.

Rajagopalan however has a fairly traditional approach to technology, and relies on his Dell laptop and Microsoft Excel to get work done. However, he feels that today a BlackBerry Z3 is good enough to meet the requirements of an executive on the move, since it lets him work and stay connected with family equally well. Read on for more.

Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
Balaji Rajagopalan:
I use Dell laptop in office and a PC at home. My phone is a Blackberry Z3, it's a great device and it means that I don't miss my laptop while on move. I have a DSLR that I don't use every day, but still love. My Nikon D3200 is always used for shooting photos while on vacation. At home, I have an LG 50-inch plasma TV with a Panasonic active sub-woofer home theatre. That's for TV and movies, but for music I use iPod with my Yamaha dock sound system.

What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
Balaji Rajagopalan:
For staying connected with friends and family, I use WhatsApp. For work, there is nothing as useful as MS Excel and I use iTunes to manage my music.

Which is the one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
Balaji Rajagopalan:
Nothing - my phone meets all my needs when I travel.

What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
Balaji Rajagopalan:
I want a Wi-Fi set-up at home that connects all my PCs, media drives and my TV for seamless integration. This way you don't have to keep connecting and disconnecting devices, it should all work smoothly.

How has technology changed the way in which you work?
Balaji Rajagopalan:
For me, technology has not changed the nature of work, but it has helped add efficiency. It helped to be more proactive and more robust in managing work. The main factor technology helped me was in providing more time to do value-add things.
