Apple Highlights Made in India Apps and Games on the App Store

In a bid to promote local apps in the country, Apple has started highlighting apps and games by Indian developers on the India App Store in a new section.

The Made in India section is featured prominently on the App Store home page carousel.

The Made in India page on the App Store shows Apps, Games, Popular Services, and also lists Bollywood Beats and Southern Style soundtracks, as well as Films Celebrating India.

Each of the categories can be expanded to see all items, or filtered to sort by featured, name, or release date. Notably, only 20 items are shown on 'see all' page (except for Films Celebrating India, which shows 16 items), while 12 items are shown per category on the main Made in India page.

Featured apps include NDTV, Hike Messenger, and Camera Plus, while featured games include Flick Tennis, Real Cricket 14 and Parking Frenzy India.

Notably, two years ago almost to the day, Apple introduced rupee pricing for the Indian App Store. Little over a month later, it brought the iTunes Store to India, allowing users in the country to purchase music and buy or rent movies with local content prominently featured.

Earlier this year, Apple brought the iBooks Textbooks section to India, offering iPad users fullscreen textbooks with interactive animations, rotating 3D diagrams, flick-through photo galleries and tap-to-play videos.
