In addition to Android N Developer Preview, Google has started rolling out the stable version of Chrome v49 to Android and iOS as well. The update as usual brings new features. The search giant last week released Chrome 49 for OS X, Windows, and Linux.
On Android, the Google Chrome 49.0.2623.91 improves background sync with the Background Sync API. The Background Sync API will enable sites to schedule a sync when an Internet connection is detected the next time, even when the page is closed by the user.
As first spotted by 9to5Google, the update also introduces APIs including MediaRecorder API for recording audio and video without the need of a plugin, Flash for instance. Chrome 49 for Android also brings notifications for nearby smart beacons, which comes as a result of collaboration between Google's beacon platform and Nearby API.
The internal teams have also fixed some vulnerabilities using Chrome V8 engine, while making some JavaScript improvements. The updated app is available to download from Google Play.
On iOS, the Chrome browser app version 49.0.2623.73 as compared to its Android counterpart, brings small changes. The bookmarks interface has now been redesigned letting iOS users easily access their favourite bookmarks inside the app. Bug fixes and stability improvements have also been included. The updated Google Chrome app for iOS is available to download from App Store.
