Instagram has rolled out an update that brings the ability to tag people in photographs uploaded on the mobile focused photo sharing network.

The company informed via a blog post that it's bringing the 'Photos of You' feature to the service through which, users can tag others to photos just like they add hashtags. It's worth pointing out that only the users who upload the photos will be able to add/ tag people and brands on Instagram.

Users will be able to see picture name tags once they tap on a picture.

After users shoot, crop and put a filter to their photo, they'll see an 'Add People' prompt that will allow them to select people by tapping on their exact position in the image, and enter their names, which the service also autocompletes with names of their followers or names of brands.

However, users willl be able to remove their own name tag by simply tapping on the tag, and removing themselves from the photo or reporting it as inappropriate via the More options prompt. They can also choose to hide a specific photo from their profile.

The app now features a 'Photos of You' section with the users' profile that will display all pictures in which the user has been tagged. In addition to this, the user will also get a push notification when someone adds the user in the photo.

Similar to Facebook, Instagram also allows users to adjust settings so that they're not tagged in photos till they approve them. To do so they can go to their Profile, and change their Photos of You behaviour to manual.

The Photos of You section will start showing up for other users on May 16 so users can set up their privacy settings as per their preference and see how it works for them.

The updated Instagram app (version 3.5) can be downloaded for iOS via Apple's App Store, and for Android through Google Play.
