Microsoft has revealed the fortunate Windows Phone handsets that are eligible to receive Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. The list is fairly short, much like company's ambitions with its mobile handsets and mobile operating system.

The company says following handsets will be receiving the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the mobile version of the Fall Creators Update that Microsoft made available to Windows 10 desktop users earlier this week. The handsets that are eligible to receive the aforementioned software update are: HP Elite x3, HP Elite x3 (Verizon), HP Elite x3 (Telstra), Wileyfox Pro, Microsoft Lumia 550, Microsoft Lumia 650, Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL, Alcatel IDOL 4S, Alcatel IDOL 4S Pro, Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL, Softbank 503LV, VAIO Phone Biz, MouseComputer MADOSMA Q601, and the Trinity NuAns Neo.

Microsoft says some additional Windows Phone handsets, which are already eligible for Windows 10 Mobile update, will receive security patches from the company until they reach the end of their lifecycle. The handsets are Lumia Icon, 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430, 435, BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q, and MCJ Madosma Q501.

If you happen to own any other Windows Phone handset, you're out of luck. According to estimates, most Windows Phone handsets are still running Windows Phone 8.1 software update. In July, Windows Phone 8.1 operating system ran out of its support cycle. For such customers, there is no bright light at the end of tunnel.

Earlier this month, Joe Belfiore, the Corporate Vice President of the Operating Systems Group at Microsoft, admitted that company was all but done with pursuing its mobile operating system and handsets visions. He said Microsoft made enough attempts to lure developers into making apps for Windows Phone platform, but none of them seemed to materialise.
