Popcorn Time Torrent-Streaming Android App Gets Chromecast Support

Time4Popcorn's Popcorn Time service, also referred as 'Netflix of Torrents', has now added Chromecast support to the beta version of its Android app.

The company announced the news on its blog post and said, "Android beta 2.0 is finally here. Chromecast support is now available on Android." It also confirmed that the Chromecast support will soon be rolled out for Mac users.

Time4Popcorn also listed some of the upgrades to its Popcorn Time Android app, including automatic updates; native UI; faster download of movies/TV shows; major bug fixes, and support for more devices. The Popcorn Time Android beta 2.0 app can be downloaded from the Time4Popcorn site.

The company also revealed an upcoming feature - built-in VPN for Android in the version beta 2.1 of Popcorn Time -which is expected to be released soon.

The addition of Chromecast support to the Popcorn Time Android app will almost definitely boost the popularity of the service, as it will allow users to stream the content easily on larger screens. Notably, Time4Popcorn rolled out Chromecast support for Windows last week.

Popcorn Time launched its Android app in May and it was available for download via the company's developer site. For those unaware, the Popcorn Time app was initially available on Google Play but it was later pulled by Google, citing "intellectual property violation".

The Popcorn Time Android app lets users' browse, download and stream torrents. For those unaware, Popcorn Time is a multi-platform, free and open source media player. The service is a free alternative to subscription-based video streaming services such as Netflix. The program could stream unauthorised copies of films directly from torrent trackers if entered.
