Online healthcare player Practo updated its app on Tuesday to include medicine ordering functionality. The service is currently being run as pilot in limited areas of Bengaluru.

Other Indian tech startups focused on medicine delivery include 1mg, Netmeds, mChemist, and Pluss. To buy most medicines online, users are required to upload a valid prescription using the phone's camera or from the photo gallery. Practo is leveraging its end-to-end cloud-based healthcare management solution for clinics Practo Ray, to eliminate this step. If the doctor who issued a prescription is using Practo Ray, patients would not have to upload or present the prescription to Practo, reducing the paperwork required by the user.

Practo said that its platform sees 40 million appointments a year, and has over 200,000 doctors, 10,000 hospitals, and 8,000 diagnostic centres on its platform, across 15 countries.
