Japanese manufacturer Sony has announced the launch of their first large-sensor camera in Cyber-shot series. Dubbed as DSC-RX100, this 20.2 megapixel shooter comes with 1-inch (13.2 x 8.8mm) CMOS sensor, which is reportedly four times larger than other compact cameras. A bigger sensor means sharper details, and improved low-light performance.

The sensor is partnered with Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* fixed lens with 3.6x optical zoom range, which allows a wide F1.8 maximum aperture to let in additional light.

The DSC-RX100 also features a high-resolution 3-inch LCD that adds a new feature called WhiteMagic, which uses additional white pixels to boost screen brightness. It allows users to see subtle details and tones on the screen in all types of shooting environments.

According to Sony, the camera can also shoot at up to 10 frames per second (in full resolution) and has high-speed autofocus that locks onto a subject in as quickly as 0.13 seconds.
