Coolpad officially entered India in partnership with Dazen almost exactly a year ago, but that venture ended just months later. The two Chinese partners then carried on individually, and the company we now know as Coolpad has since then concentrated only on the sub-Rs. 10,000 market with the Note 3 (Review | Pictures) and two subsequent variants. Priced at an ambitious Rs. 24,999, the new Coolpad Max is a significant launch by the company, and could help propel it into the big leagues.
Coolpad Max Summary
Coolpad's first foray outside of the budget segment, the Coolpad Max, has high aspirations. It looks premium and feels good, and the specifications are pretty impressive. 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage are generous, but the SoC is a mid-range Snapdragon 617. The cameras are pretty good and battery life is also acceptable. The big feature however is a "private mode" which lets you encrypt private data and keep it away from prying eyes. This is a good phone for those who value looks and features, but performance-wise, you might be just as happy with a phone that costs much less.
