The movie is the sequel to The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather Part II (1974). It is the third and final instalment in The Godfather trilogy — except this is a recut version, one which Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo with had originally envisioned.
Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) is approaching his 60s, he is wracked with guilt over his ruthless rise to power, especially for getting his brother Fredo Corleone murdered. To combat the guilt, he donates millions to charitable causes.
The patriarch of the Corleone family also seeks to free his family from crime. He is a hunt to find a suitable successor to legitimise his criminal empire.
