China's online game market hits $7 billion mark

  • China's total sales of computer and mobile online games has reached around $7 billion, after a major slump in 2010.
After suffering a slump in 2010, China's online game market recovered last year, with total sales of computer and mobile online games reaching 46.9 billion yuan (around $7 billion), the government said.

According to an annual industry report released by the ministry of culture, the sales grew 34 percent year-on-year, the People's Daily reported.

The number of computer online game users in the country rose 33 percent year-on-year to over 160 million in 2011.

The number of mobile online game users rose by 46 percent to over 50 million.

The mobile online game market grew over 51 percent from 2010 to reach 3.9 billion yuan (around $635 million).

Exports of homemade games reached $403 million, up 76 percent from 2010.
