  • Fortnite grossed over $500 million on the App Store
  • Around $150 million of this is estimated to be Apple’s cut
  • The game has been on the App Store for less than a year

Fortnite players have spent over $500 million (roughly Rs. 354 crores) via in-app purchases on iOS alone, according to app analytics firm Sensor Tower. This is a huge milestone for Epic Games' blockbuster battle royale game Fortnite. The game has been on iOS for less than one year and it already has grossed over half a billion dollars. Sensor Tower claims that Fortnite has crossed records set by other major iOS games such as Supercell's Clash Royale and Tencent's Honor of Kings. Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale game where up to 100 players are paradropped on an island and the last person or team standing wins.

The Sensor Tower report claimed that Fortnite players in the US accounted for about $320 million (roughly Rs. 227 crores) in revenue on iOS, which is around 64 percent of the total revenue. Sensor Tower claims that Fortnite took 326 days to hit the $500 million revenue mark on iOS, which is faster than Clash Royale (389 days) and Honor of Kings (405 days).

Sensor Tower noted that Epic Games would've ended up paying about 30 percent of its revenue to Apple, which is the App Store commission. This number translates to around $150 million (roughly Rs. 110 crores), assuming that Apple hasn't reduced its commission for some of its highest grossing apps.

Fortnite earned around $1.53 million (roughly Rs. 10 crores) per day to achieve its current revenue figure, Sensor Tower claimed. The report claimed that Fortnite is estimated to have earned over $100 million on Android since the game launched on that platform even though it is not on Google Play.

This is the latest staggering revenue figure that has been reported for Fortnite. The game reportedly made a cool $2.4 billion in 2018, and at one point was earning around $2 million a day during Fortnite Season 5. It's worth noting that Fortnite is also on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, so the total revenue figure for Fortnite is a lot higher than just the App Store number.
